The MA-VLEOA was founded in 2011 to provide service, support and training opportunities to Massachusetts volunteer police officers. There are approximately 70 law enforcement agencies in Massachusetts with approximately 1,200 volunteer officers in service. During 2010 alone collectively these officers volunteered in excess of 124,000 hours of service to their Massachusetts communities. These volunteers have unique needs that can be better met with a coordinated effort between agencies. The MA-VLEOA will serve as the platform to help individual agencies and officers work together for the betterment of all involved.
In the MA-VLEOA's first coordinated statewide training effort, in November, 2011 it coordinated a two day training conference attended by 142 participants representing over 40 agencies.
